DIY - home office

my new workspace

determined to get organised I finally had the chance over the last few days to get a bit creative. First on the agenda was my notice board - I had been using a cork board which was way to small and I knew I needed to find a replacement.

like everywhere else in my home, red is the dominant colour and i found this gorgeous red and cream ticking, some lovely wooden buttons and the most divine red ribbon.....

(yep, that's a builders quote...yippee)

divine red ribbon with cream stripes and timber buttons

so I started with one of these (staple gun...red..of course) and used a 120cm x 100cm double thick canvas that has been sitting collecting dust under my bed for about a year now, and some wadding (I used 2 layers) which I picked up by the roll.

i used the staple gun to secure the wadding to the frame, then secured the fabric over the top, making sure I did neat hospital corners on the edges of the frame, and hey presto she was ready for some ribbon and buttons....

now for the most important part - do not attempt to sew on buttons whilst watching the tennis, believe me trying to punch a needle through 2 layers of wadding, a primed canvas and thick fabric creates a lot of force...something I realised several times when it was my finger that it connected with on the other side..... my husband sat on the other couch the whole time and laughed every time I did it....

and the best was still to come, once hung on the wall I played around for hours with pegs and placement of bills and scripts and post cards and things... I'm chuffed with the end result...

Hi Rachael,

I call in often but until now I have never left a comment. I love what you have made for the notice board. I love red also. Every time I look at it, it just makes me so happy!!! Your home looks really nice and I hope with the renovations you make you get what you want. Also love the previous post, with the things you bought from A-M and Ness. I had my eye on the silver lidded dish but I was too slow. Also on a previous post loved the red tram destination poster (I know they have a better title than that, but I am having memory block and can't think of it at the moment!). I do feed your fish everytime I visit, they are very cute.....better go.
Take care

That worked out beautifully! The red and white ticking is so perfect, I may have to get myself all creative and sort a notice board out for my office, as my corkboard is way too small also! (if I can get myself out of the garden!)

Your office looks so smart and stylish - makes me feel like attacking mine although I would have to get my husband off the computer first... Sometimes sharing is no fun!! Love the way even your staple gun fits in with your red accent theme.

Hi Rachael:) Like Janine I follow your blog but have not left a comment before. I love your blog and this post was fantastic! I love your ticking notice board, something I really need to make as I start back at Uni in 5 days and my office is a tiny vintage school desk next to my bed! Thank you for such wonderful inspiration! Happy Australia Day to you for tomorrow - Tina x
